Curatorial Fellowship Applications: Live Art

The Institute for Creative Arts (ICA) at the University of Cape Town (UCT) invites applications for two curatorial fellowships in live art. The curatorial fellowship entails research, dialogue with artists, exploring funding possibilities, an exploration of installation spaces and the acquisition of works leading towards staging a series of live art events in and around the city. 

Curatorial fellows may research the curation of live art with a specific though not exclusive focus on young/emerging performance artists from the African continent, and live art in relation to public spheres. Fellows are however encouraged to test boundaries, engage with new publics, and to explore the critical potentialities of live art.

The fellowship will provide the successful candidate with access to the University’s facilities; the opportunity to engage with UCT’s research community, and interaction with ICA’s Live Art, Interdisciplinary and Public Art postgraduate cohort. Monetary provision will be made for subsistence, travel and – where necessary – materials.

This is a part-time fellowship and fellows will need to be based in Cape Town in the period leading up to the Live Art Festival which will commence on 29 August 2018. Should the fellow not be based in Cape Town, the period will be negotiated and agreed upon between the fellow and the ICA.
 
The fellowship deliverables are:

• A curatorial strategy for possible inclusion in the 2018 Live Art Festival
• A public seminar

Application process
The fellowship is open to artists and academics from all disciplines and interested parties should submit the following:
– An updated CV
– A one-page proposal (400 words max) of a concept given the broad parameters stated above. Include images where possible.
