Intimacies

A conversation with Gavin Krastin, Noluthando Mpho Sibisi, Tandile Mbatsha, and Nico Athene, moderated by Luvuyo Equiano Nyawose.
This conversation looks at readings of Intimacies that open us to the sanctuary we have in someone else, the fragility of the everyday, the kinship of communion, the space to be vulnerable, to be tender, to heal without abjection or judgment, or simply, the consensual touch which reminds us of a shared connection. We hope to collectively dive deeper into each work, and unpack what intimacy means in light of our contentious present, collective H/histories and not altogether certain futures.

‘rights’ to ritual

A conversation with Albert Ibokwe Khoza, Buhlebezwe Siwani and Nkosenathi Koela, moderated by Kefiloe Siwisa
How does the embodied practice of ritual and ceremonial semiotics translate into the realm of performance? Ritual in performance may offer possibilities for redressing and reconfiguring existing socio-cultural structures, but what are the politics of appropriation, and the ethical concerns that arise when ritual behaviour, healing and reparative work intersect with live art practices? This discussion will attempt to navigate the limitations and possibilities that occur when secular and sacred meet, and the lines between audience and participants are blurred.
