Kerfoot will direct Athol Fugard’s Statements after an arrest under the immorality act. The play is a compelling love story set in a library during apartheid. It is about the struggle two lovers face in a social system that regards their relationship as being criminal. “What excites me about my production is that it is complicated, it doesn’t try to give answers, It is a play about lovers, the struggle of people to love, who are trapped in their lives, trapped in their roles, trapped in the time – the circumstances they live in” says Kerfoot.
“I am thrilled to be part of this production, the landscape of the play resonates on many levels for me, the brutal legislation is part of my personal history”, says Bo Petersen, one of the performers in the three strong cast. Malefane Mosuhli, who graduated in 2010 from the UCT drama department is also excited to be acting in this production: “I’m still pinching myself, so in awe and inspired to work with such an acclaimed and accomplished cast, working on a text written by one of S.A’s most accomplished playwrights”. Jeroen Kranenburg completes the acting team.
Kim Kerfoot has established a name for himself in all corners of Cape Town’s theatre industry working as a theatre maker, actor, ighting designer, yheatre administrator, puppeteer, and production manager for a variety of individuals and theatre companies which include Christopher Weare, The Magnet Theatre, Zanews and FTH:K. The UCT graduate has a degree in Theatre and Performance. Some of Kerfoot’s other achievements include winning two Fleur De Cap Awards in 2009 and co creating and writing the theatre piece Hope Lies…,which showcased at one of UCT’s theatre performance spaces – the UCT Arena. The production then went on to the Grahamstown National Arts Festival after which, it went on an international tour to Denmark.
