Oboist Kevin Vigneau, former principal oboe of the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra, returns to Cape Town with violist Kimberly Fredenburgh to present a concert of new works by Patricia Ann Repar, Jose Luis Hurtado, Peter Gilbert and Karola Obermueller, all composition faculty at the University of New Mexico (USA). Also featured are works by esteemed South African composer Peter Klatzow, and Mexican composer Mario Lavista. This concert, which includes three world premieres, is part of a year-long project supported by the University of New Mexico to commission, perform and record new works for oboe and viola. Vigneau and Fredenburgh are both professors at the University of New Mexico and principal musicians in the New Mexico Philharmonic.

Kevin Vigneau is Professor of Oboe at the University of New Mexico and Principal Oboe of the New Mexico Philharmonic Orchestra. He was principal oboe of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra, the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa (Portugal) and the Orquesta del Principado de Asturias (Spain). Vigneau performs with the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra and has been featured at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, the Banff Music Centre and Music from Angel Fire. He has performed in Brazil, Portugal, Holland, Puerto Rico, Canada, South Africa, the Azores, Spain, and on many university campuses in the United States. Vigneau has recorded for the EMI Classics, Summit and Centaur labels and his solo CD of contemporary works by Schuller, Roseman, Steinbach, Skalkottas and Dorati was released in 2007. He holds a DMA from the Yale School of Music where he studied with Ronald Roseman.
Kimberly Fredenburgh is Associate Professor of Viola at the University of New Mexico and Acting Principal Viola of the New Mexico Philharmonic. She performs regularly with the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra and appears as principal viola with the Santa Fe Pro Musica Orchestra. Fredenburgh was previously associate principal viola of the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra and taught at Arizona State University. She was co-principal violist with the New World Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas and has appeared in Carnegie Hall with Sir Georg Solti conducting. Fredenburgh has been featured as a concerto soloist with the Phoenix Symphony, the New Mexico Philharmonic and the New Mexico Symphony. She has taught master classes and performed in recitals across the US as well as in Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Portugal, Spain, Italy and Monaco; and has delivered pedagogical papers at several National ASTA conferences and has also performed at the 2008 International Viola Congress.
