Biography
Darion Adams is a South African artist, dancer, choreographer, educator, and cultural producer born and raised in Manenberg, Cape Town. A graduate of the UCT Centre for Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies and Jazzart Dance Theatre, their multidisciplinary practice spans live performance, screen dance, public art, and community-based work. Darion’s practice explores memory, identity politics, and heritage, approaching the body as an archive where histories of colonialism, displacement, and intergenerational trauma are held and reimagined through movement. They have collaborated with companies and platforms including Camissa Create, Third World Bunfight, Darkroom Contemporary, InfluenZA Art, Unmute Dance Company, Queer Feminist Film Festival, and Sunshine Cinema. Their works include “//is ge sada, sada ge //is... she is us, and we are her,” created for Infecting the City, and the solo performance STAND TF UP, premiered at the Baxter Theatre Centre.
In 2025, Darion received the Pina Bausch Fellowship, researching movement and lived realities with the Manenberg community. They are the founder of The AIM Society and creator of Art in Manenberg, an annual multidisciplinary arts event dedicated to cultural access and community empowerment.

Synopsis
‘Wanne jy my naam hoor’ is a dance piece which asks: What do you really hear? This performance, created by Darion Adams, explores how people and places are seen - and sometimes not seen. Rooted in Manenberg, it looks at what is noticed and what is ignored, and how a place carries history, stories, and meaning. It asks: When you hear my name, what do you feel? Is it truth, fear, distance, or connection? The title is inspired by and gives honour to Porterville-born artist, Rosey Die Rapper, and her song, “My naam hoor.” Created by Darion Adams as part of their time at Purple Mountain Arts Residency.
