Biography
Carro Sharkey is a transmasculine freelance artist and choreographer based in Berlin, but they'll go anywhere for you. Originally from the US, Carro studied at Interlochen Arts Academy and Alonzo King LINES Ballet before joining Hubbard Street Dance Chicago as an apprentice. From 2020-2024 they worked primarily with Control Group Productions, becoming the Associate Artistic Director where they created and performed multiple immersive and site-specific dance and theater works; performing in abandoned slaughterhouses, moving buses, ball pits, and on the side of a cliff.
Their work through Control Group has brought them to perform internationally in the curation of site-specific work on multiple occasions, including performing at La Jolla Playhouse’s WithOut Walls festival on multiple occasions in San Diego. They have been invited to perform extensively across the US, Germany, Greece, and India. Since moving to Berlin in October of 2024, they have been honored to work with Luna Park, Deva Schubert, and Pamela Moraga as a dancer. This summer they participated in the DanceWEB program at Impulstanz under the mentorship of Raja Feather Kelly. Their most recent work, Did4luv, premiered at Sophiensaele in 2026 as part of TanzTage Berlin. They believe their job as an artist is to blow over a house of cards from 50 meters away. Currently, they are developing a queer ballet class at Tanzfabrik and Dock 11.
Synopsis
Did4Luv is a tragicomic dance theatre solo that spirals through a surreal 45-minute hell/dreamscape of labor that builds on itself like a tumor. It draws from the politics of Times Square and Alexanderplatz mascot workers, precarity, performance as labor, and the side-gigs of its creators to stay afloat. The piece assembles a resentful yet hopeful love letter to performance and its hyper-visible laborers. Blending lived experiences of sex work, drag, magic shows, clowning, and pole dance with Western dance technique, the piece uses camp, absurdity, and earnesty to highlight the friction that exists between fantasy and survival. The choreography is co-devised by Dominique McDougal and Carro Sharkey, and performed by both on alternating nights.
