Biography
Roland du Preez is a Swiss Army knife artist: actor, comedian, writer, and musician. Roland’s work focuses on queer joy, intergenerational trauma, unpacking Afrikaans culture, and the potential for humour in conflict. They believe that art must show vulnerability for people to connect with it. There ought to be more queer stories with happy endings.
Recently, Roland’s solo play Rescue Remedy was nominated for best solo performance at Woordfees. They co-created Pick a Struggle, a comedy variety show with Zach Esau. They played keyboard for the cabaret Hoek, Lyn, en Sinker as well as Francesco Nassimbeni's The Sun is a Star, and We Know What it's Made of. They started Drama & Dragons, a theatre/ D&D workshop series for kids. Roland is a regular in the Cape Town standup scene and a finalist in the Jive Funny Championship.
Anna Louise von Delft is a theatremaker and whimsy-goblin. She studied Drama and Theatre Studies at the University of Stellenbosch and has stage credits ranging from Desdemona in the Artscape to a witchy grandmother in the award-winning production of Monstruasie. On screen, she can be seen in KykNet’s Wyfie and Fynskrif, among others. She has trained under directors Marthinus Basson, Steven Stead and Jozua Malherbe, and made her directorial debut at the Toyota Woordfees with Die Twee Laksmanne. She enjoys watching snail trails and playing like she means it.
Synopsis
Ooie is an intergenerational exploration of the feminine, offering a diversity of perspectives. We give a platform to conversations around menopause, misogyny, and queer femme experiences. The piece proposes the potential for joy in subverting strict, traditional femininity through play.
