Biography
Thalia Alberts is a Cape Town-based physical theatre performer, dancer, actor, and emerging choreographer/director. She has avid experience across festival and professional stages. After completing her Honours in Physical Theatre at Stellenbosch University in 2024, she has been working with Figure of 8 Dance Theatre for the last two years as part of their Performance Development Program. Skilled in movement- based storytelling, ensemble work, and devised theatre, she brings a strong physical vocabulary and expressive performance style to her craft. Her choreographic debut, Ode to Earth Worms, explored the ecology of a whalefall, tracing phases of decomposition through physical vocabulary, and was performed at Premierfees, TheatreArts and Suidoosterfees. Often morbid and disarming in its innocent playfulness, her work is inspired by tracing parallels between the inner emotional landscapes of human experience and daily natural processes of decay, transformation, and rebirth.
Synopsis
(Fil)ament explores the ecology of grief. Through a multi-media performance using textile art such as crochet, written word, physical theatre and audience interaction, the work creates a living, breathing ecosystem that has been carefully threaded together. It strings together fibrous thoughts on ecological grief, interpersonal grief and the daily grief of loving and living well in this world. Disarming, disturbing and deeply impactful, the work invites audiences into an immersive landscape to both create and experience the heart of grief.
