Dr John Purser – composer, poet, musicologist, author of the award winning Scotland’s Music and the recently published biography of Erik Chisholm – will lead an hour-long musical journey exploring the life and work of Chisholm, Dean of UCT’s Faculty of Music from 1946 to 1965. It will be illustrated with images and musical excerpts including three very different works from the Chisholm repertoire: Scottish Airs for Children, the Straloch Suite and a selection of bards from Night Song of the Bards. Purser will be accompanied by senior students at the SA College of Music, namely Conroy Scott (baritone) and François Botha, Olga Rademan, Mark Spence and Jessamie Jardim on the piano.
The Chisholm Recital Room is situated at the SA College of Music, on UCT’s Lower Campus, Rondebosch, Cape Town (across the road from the Baxter Theatre).
