Biography
Keagan Xavier Damons (He/They) is a South African contemporary movement artist, freelance choreographer, dancer, and dance educator based in Cape Town. He began his formal training at Belhar Secondary School and continued developing his craft with New World Dance Theatre. He later completed a rigorous three-year professional training programme with Jazzart Dance Theatre, where he was subsequently invited to join the company as a full-time professional dancer.
Keagan’s professional trajectory has seen him perform both locally and internationally, including in China. He has collaborated with a range of South African musicians and artists, most notably performing at the RMB Starlight Classics in both 2023 and 2024. He co-choreographed a gender-based violence (GBV) awareness piece in collaboration with the AIM Society.
In 2024, Keagan worked with two Standard Bank Young Artists, contributing as a co-creator and performer for their National Arts Festival projects. Most recently, in 2025, he performed in the Cape Town debut of Woza Wenties / 3 Mense Phakathi under Standard Bank sponsorship.
In 2026, Keagan conceptualised, project managed, directed, choreographed, and performed in SKIN ERASED, a community-centred beautification project based in Elsies River. As part of this work, he choreographed and directed two additional performers, using movement and visual storytelling to engage themes of identity, healing, and renewal within the community. Funded by the National Arts Council.
Synopsis
Whitewashed is an embodied meditation on love, what it is, what it is not, and how we, as human beings, often lose ourselves in the space between the two. It interrogates the ways in which we have been taught to give and receive love, revealing how easily we settle for what is familiar, comfortable, or socially affirmed rather than what is honest, expansive, and deeply nourishing. At its core, the work asks what it truly means to love and be loved without illusion.
